Week 1: Only The Beginning

  • Knowledge Gained: What did I learn this week, academically and personally?
  • This week was quite eye opening. I really enjoyed leaning the content of my 2 subjects (Intro to Design Studies and Graphic Communication), particularly the content about drawing and perception, but it also showed me that I am going to have to really manage my time to achieve my goal as my week was also accompanied by a trip to ED and a very busy husband thrown in the mix.
  • Challenges: What obstacles did I face, and how did I overcome them?
  • My 2-year-old had a fall and ended up with a severe case of whip lash which really slowed down the end of my week. I found managing my time when the girls were sleeping was my best way to overcome this. I also called on my mum and mother-in-law for help. They are my saviours most weeks!
  • Successes & Strengths: What successes or strengths did I recognise in myself this week?
  • I think studying something I have a passion for will definitely make me a better student. I went straight from Highschool to Uni and studied Psychology as a teenager and while I enjoyed it, I was never a really dedicated student as Uni felt like more of an expectation then a privilege.
  • Application: How can I apply what I have learned?
  • You get out what you put in! And to achieve my ultimate goal I will need to lean on the support system around me as you never quite know what will be thrown at you!
  • Areas for Improvement: What skills or knowledge would I like to develop further?
  • I need to continually build on my time management and organisation. Managing a busy family, helping my beautiful husband with a number of projects (Francis St, Mindham St, Hubert St, Burke St Units, Fourteenth Ave to name a few) and designing our own home to build later this year will be difficult to juggle.
  • Goals: Based on my reflections, what personal goals can I set for the coming week?
  • Continue to complete all of my readings and tasks on time. Complete the design elements and brief for our home with Tara. Enlist mum to look after the girls on Wednesday arv to attend my Intro lecture live so I don't need to find that time elsewhere!

  2. Hi Alexandra, you’ve handled a tough week really well. Balancing family, study, and unexpected challenges is hard. Leaning on your support network and finding time when you can shows great adaptability. Keep building on those time management skills and remember, your passion for design will help carry you through the busy times. I hope your little girl is OK, gorgeous photo of both of them :)
