Week 3: What a Week!

  • Knowledge Gained: What did I learn this week, academically and personally?
Persistence and Resilience will be my words of the week this week. IT WAS MASSIVE! Academically, I had my first Assessment due which really tested my time management as well as my skillset. Personally, I had to play boss all week this week as my husband was away on a dirt bike travelling from Cairns to Cape York with very limited phone and internet reception for 6 days. I stayed up till midnight most nights (which I never do) displaying to me my persistence and perseverance to get EVERYTHING done and I definitely had to test my problem-solving skills and resilience when it came to a few curly ones I was thrown at work. Not to mention juggling my 2 lovely babies (who definitely had moments of not so lovely this week)
  • Challenges: What obstacles did I face, and how did I overcome them?
Again, I leant on my support system, both at home with my beautiful family and at work with Brodies fantastic assistant, Lisa. The obstacles were varied, but if I'm being honest, I did love the challenge and sometimes I do think I'm better when I'm busy (more focused maybe)
  • Successes & Strengths: What successes or strengths did I recognise in myself this week?
Overall, I actually impressed myself both personally and professionally. I was truly very pleased with the assessment I submitted, and I can only hope that is reflected in my mark. I have both a blessing and curse when it comes to commitment sometimes and I'm not one to quit or throw in the towel and while that did work in my favour this week it also meant I burnt the candle at both ends a little and by the weekend I was definitely lacking motivation
  • Application: How can I apply what I have learned?
One of the things that seemed to drive me most were the goals I had set early in the piece. I promised myself I would keep on top of my work load each week, physically attend all of my contact hours at their designated time and submit all assessment pieces on time (in fact, I was early which was also a great relief)
  • Areas for Improvement: What skills or knowledge would I like to develop further?
I still feel my time management could be improved as I do tend to jump around a little and at times, I feel that my processes aren't particularly effective. I do feel as if my knowledge is growing greatly however and I truly enjoyed delving into some design aspects in this week's class
  • Goals: Based on my reflections, what personal goals can I set for the coming week?
Continue to uphold my current standard for myself and my study, particularly with another assessment piece due this week. I also want to get back to a good sleep pattern as the late nights really seemed to hinder my motivation and concentration by the end of the week

  1. What a huge week for you. It’s great that you leaned on your support system and recognised your own persistence and resilience, even if it meant some late nights. You should be proud of getting everything done and even submitting your assessment early! Try to prioritise your sleep in the coming weeks and tweak your time management so you don’t burn out. Your commitment and problem-solving skills are clear strengths, keep building on them, and don’t forget to give yourself a break when you need it. :)
